The supermodel Tyra Banks spoke out this week to address mistakes she made while hosting the second episode of “Dancing With The Stars” on Monday. This comes as she continues to receive backlash for replacing Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews on the show after the two were fired back in July.

Banks took to TikTok to talk about her mistakes and to share an emotional story about perseverance in the face of screw-ups.

“Tonight I hosted the second episode of Dancing with the Stars … and yeah, it wasn’t perfect,” Banks said in the video. “Yeah, I had a lot of fun but I messed up, I said the wrong words, but I kept, kept going.”

The television host went on to compare her hosting job to contestant Skai Jackson, who suffered a brief mishap during her performance with pro Alan Bersten when she stumbled during a lift. Though they were docked points by the judges, the pair still made it to the next round, something that Banks said was due to their perseverance.

“She got back up and she kept going, and because of that she’s here for another week,” Banks said. “So the message is: I messed up this week, Skai messed up this week, but we’re gonna keep on going and going.”

“Forgive yourself when you mess up and keep going,” she concluded.

Banks has been widely panned for replacing Bergeron in particular, as he had been with the show since it premiered in 2005 until he was abruptly fired in July. When the new season of “Dancing With The Stars” premiered last week, fans were quick to say that Banks could not compare to Bergeron as a host.

“Can I just say, what the heck was ABC thinking replacing Tom Bergeron with Tyra Banks on DWTS,” one Twitter user commented, “His wit and quick comebacks made the show interesting.  It’s so boring now I can’t stay awake.  #DWTS.”

“#TyraBanks don’t quit your day job dear. Hosting DWTS is not your strength,” another user wrote, with a third fan adding, “I’m sorry but Tyra Banks is so freaking fake and annoying! why in the world would they replace Tom bergeron and Erin Andrews. She’s awful #DWTS.”
