Democratic Senator Asks Amy Coney Barrett If She’s Ever Committed Sexual Assault – It Immediately Backfires On Her

During the second day of Supreme Court justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearings on Tuesday, Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) had the nerve to ask if she had ever committed sexual assault. Unfortunately for Hirono, however, it did not take long for this to come back to bite her.

When it came time for Hirono to speak, she informed Barrett that she asks the same two questions to every Supreme Court justice nominee.

“Since you became a legal adult, have you ever made unwanted requests for sexual favors, or committed any physical or verbal harassment or assault of a sexual nature?” the Democrat asked.

“No, Senator Hirono,” Barrett replied.

“Have you ever faced discipline or entered into a settlement related to this kind of conduct?” Hirono asked, to which Barrett responded, “No, Senator.”

This line of questioning has since blown up in Hirono’s face, however, as Twitter users have made it clear that they believe she crossed the line here. Video of Hirono asking Barrett these questions was tweeted out by director Robert Starbuck.

“Here’s resident Senate lunatic, Mazie Hirono asking Amy Coney Barrett ‘Have you ever made unwanted requests for sexual favors… or committed assault of a sexual nature?’ Amy’s kids just watched their Mom get asked if she’s a rapist. Pure evil,” Starbuck captioned the video.

Others attacked Hirono for this as well.

“So disrespectful. Sen. Hirono is shameless,” another Twitter user wrote, [3] with a third person tweeting [4], “Just when you think they can’t possibly go any lower @maziehirono comes thru and lowers the bar even more.”

“Disgusting question by Senate Democrat Member Mazie Hirono of Hawaii,” someone else commented [5].

Others questioned if Hirono would ask these same questions to Joe Biden, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by his former staffer Tara Reade [6].

This comes one month after Hirono had said that she would never support Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination, going on to list out a lengthy number of reasons why she would never do that.

“I oppose her nomination and will fight to deny her a lifetime position on the United States Supreme Court, and in doing so, will tell the American people the danger she poses to hard-won rights,” concluded [7] Hirono.
