After their majority in the House of Representatives shrunk on Election Day, Democrats have reportedly gone into full panic mode. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is reportedly begging Democratic lawmakers not to join Joe Biden’s administration, just so they can keep their majority in the House.

“Nancy is telling House members, ‘Now is not the time to leave,’” a Democratic official who has been briefed by Democratic congressional representatives told the New York Post. Another House insider added that House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) is telling Democrat representatives to stay where they are, and is urging Biden’s transition team not to poach its members since their majority is shrinking.

The topic of whether or not to join team Biden was brought up last week at a House Democratic caucus meeting.

“It’s not helpful to talk about that,” one member of the Democratic leadership reportedly said on the call when this was brought up.

“The feeling is: Don’t make rash decisions about going to the administration without first considering consequences to the caucus,” explained another Democratic insider who was familiar with the call. This source added that the “zeitgeist” of the Democratic House leadership is that their majority is “razor thin.”

Pelosi’s office has since responded to these claims by denying that she is pressuring Democrats not to jump ship to work for Biden.

“This is completely false. The speaker wants the full contribution of House Democrats to the Biden-Harris mandate and to the future represented in the administration,” said Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill.

This comes one week after it was reported that Biden is looking at a bipartisan list of 30 members of Congress known for working across the aisle for key administration posts. Twenty of these lawmakers reportedly serve in the House, which Biden is believed to be focusing more on poaching people from than he is the Senate. The fate of the Senate is still up for grabs, as it depends on two special elections that will be happening in Georgia in January.
