BREAKING: Senate Republicans Block Bill Creating January 6th Commission

On Friday, Senate Republicans blocked the creation if a bipartisan panel to study the attack on the Capitol on January 6. The Senate vote was 54-33, just 6 votes short of the 60 votes needed to pass the House bill to create the 10 member panel that would be evenly split between Republicans and Democrats.

On Thursday, Republicans used their first filibuster of the 117th Congress to block legislation from creating the panel to investigate the attack. On Friday, only 6 Republicans voted for the legislation to pass along with all 50 Democrats.

The bill had passed through the House earlier this month with almost three dozen Republicans in support of the bill. However, GOP Senators anticipated that the commission would be used against them politically. Since the riot there has been a lot of division between the two parties and division amongst the Republican party as well. Some Republicans have remained in support of Trump, while others have blamed him for the violence at the Capitol on January 6.
