New reports are coming out this week alleging that Melania Trump has no interest in being First Lady again. This comes as speculation is mounting that her husband Donald Trump is planning to run for president again in 2024.
“Not unlike 2016, Melania Trump has no intention, really, of joining the campaign or being a prolific presence,” said CNN host Kate Bennett, according to Yahoo News [1]. “And I’ve spoke to people who’ve said that she’s not even really interested in being in the White House again, going through being first lady again.”
Bennett went on to describe Melania as “an extremely private person,” adding that being in the spotlight next to her husband was never something she wanted to begin with.
“She’s retreated now, back to Mar-a-Lago, being a mom, etc.,” Bennett said. “And she really has no interest in helping her husband with his perceived, as we all know, his ‘next step’ political ambitions.”
Melania had indicated during her time as First Lady that she did not enjoy the position and felt that she was unfairly attacked by hateful liberals on a daily basis.
“I could say I’m the most bullied person on the world,” she said in an October 2018 interview [2]. “One of them. If you really see what people saying about me.”
A source who was close to Melania during her time in the White House told CNN that “being first lady again is not what she wants. For her, it was a chapter — and it’s over, and that’s that.”
“You’re not going to see her at rallies or campaign events, even if he ‘officially’ says he’s running again,” added another source close to her. “Instead it’s going to be Lara (Trump, the wife of Trump’s son, Eric) or (Kimberly) Guilfoyle (the girlfriend of Trump’s eldest son, Don). They have that same urge Trump has to (run) again; Melania absolutely does not.”
Former president Trump has yet to confirm whether or not he plans to run in 2024, but he did say back in June that he has made the decision privately himself.
“You’re not going to answer, but I have to ask. Where are you in the process — or — let me ask you this, without giving the answer – what the answer is — have you made up your mind?” asked Fox News host Sean Hannity.
“Yes,” Trump replied [3] at the time.
Melania herself has yet to comment on whether or not she has interest in being First Lady again. Given how much this country needs her husband in power right now, we can only hope that these reports are either false, or Melania will end up coming around to the idea of being First Lady again by 2024.
