An Emmy-nominated cameraman who previously worked for CNN as well as ABC and NBC was arrested this week for threatening to kill Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and his family.

Eugene “Gene” Huelsman, 58, was arrested in Los Angeles, California, on an indictment returned that was handed down by a federal grand jury in Pensacola, Florida.

“Tell [Gaetz] to watch his back, tell him to watch his children,” Huelsman told Gaetz’s office on Jan. 9, according to the two-page indictment that was obtained by Law & Crime [2]. “I’m coming for him. He’s gonna f***ing die… I’m gonna f***ing kill him… Watch your back. I’m coming for you. I’m gonna put a bullet in you, and I’m gonna put a bullet in one of your f***ing kids too.”

The Gateway Pundit [4] reported that while the indictment was filed under seal back in May, there seems to have been no effort to arrest Huelsman until Gaetz recently complained on the House floor about the Justice Department not taking threats against him seriously enough.

“I think someone may be trying to kill me, and if they are successful, I would like my constituents and my family to know who stopped their arrest,” Gaetz said a week ago. The Republican lawmaker went on to say that an individual threatened him on Twitter and traveled to DC. Still, the Justice Department refused to arrest the suspect, even though the Capitol Police recommended that they should.

Gaetz confirmed to Politico [5] yesterday that he was the lawmaker being threatened.

“An indictment was issued in May and has now been unsealed the week after my criticism,” Gaetz said. “If they took our security seriously, they would arrest all of the people who violate federal law and the threats to kill us, not just some of them… I think that the Department of Justice is biased against Republicans.”

Huelsman has been nominated for five Emmys for his work on NBC’s “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”

“I’m glad that prosecutors in the Northern District of Florida take death threats against me and my family seriously,” Gaetz said in a statement about Huelsman’s arrest, according to ABC3 WEAR-TV [8]. “I wish that were an ethic across the DOJ enterprise.”

Huelsman is set to appear before a judge this coming Friday, according to court records. We’re glad to see that the person who threatened the lives of Gaetz and his family may finally be brought to justice.
