Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) spoke out on Tuesday night to falsely claim that the fact that former White House advisor Steve Bannon is refusing to cooperate with the January 6th committee is evidence that he and former President Donald Trump planned the riot that took place that day at the Capitol.

Daily Mail reported that Cheney said this as the committee voted to hold Bannon in contempt for refusing to testify about the groups that allegedly took part in the riot. If this move is a success for the committee, the push to hold Cheney in contempt will move to the House of Representatives for a vote before the Justice Department decides whether to prosecute him. Ultimately, this could lead to prison time for Bannon.

“Based on the committee’s investigation, it appears that Mr. Bannon had substantial advanced knowledge of the plans for January 6th and likely had an important role in formulating those plans,” Cheney said.

Cheney went on to say that Trump involving executive privilege to attempt to stop the investigation shows “that President Trump was personally involved in the planning and execution of January 6th, and this committee will get to the bottom of that.”

Not stopping there, Cheney called on her fellow Republican lawmakers to denounce Trump’s claims about voter fraud.

“Almost every one of my colleagues knows in your hearts that what happened on January 6th was profoundly wrong. You all know that there is no evidence of widespread election fraud sufficient to have changed the results of the election,” Cheney said. “You all know that the Dominion voting machines were not corrupted by a foreign power. You know these claims are false.”

Cheney then said that these claims could hurt Republicans because they could lead to Americans becoming too jaded to vote in elections.

“This is a prescription for national self-destruction,” Cheney said. “All of us who are elected officials must do our duty to prevent the dismantling of the rule of law and to ensure that nothing like that dark day in January ever happens again.”

This comes one week after Trump trashed the committee, saying, “Unselect Committee composed of Radical Left Democrats and a few horrible … Republicans.”

Cheney is known as a shameless RINO who voted in favor of impeaching Trump earlier this year. There is certainly no love lost between her and the former president.
