Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon spoke out on Monday to slam the ex-First Lady Michelle Obama after she waded into the 2022 election cycle by pushing her voting agenda. He went so far as to claim that Obama is doing this in response to the strategy he used to control the Republican Party on the behalf of Donald Trump.

“Remember, there are no coincidences. Michelle Obama who has floated above this thing at 60,000 feet with Barack Obama, floating above it because they’re national heroes, according to some people, over the weekend, what did she say she was going to do?” he asked on Monday’s episode of his “War Room” podcast, according to Yahoo News. “She’s going to lead an effort to sign up one million new voters for progressives. How many of those are going to be citizens?”

This came after Michelle spoke out ahead of the 2022 midterm elections to say that “We’ve got to vote like the future of our democracy depends on it.” She said this in an open letter titled “Fight For Our Vote,” which was published in The New York Times on Sunday.

“We stand united in our conviction to organize and turn out voters in the 2022 midterm elections, and make our democracy work for all of us,” Michelle wrote in the letter, which was thirty other civic engagement, voting rights and voter mobilization organizations including the NAACP, Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight Action, Voto Latino Foundation, NextGen America, LeBron James’ More Than A Vote and Rock the Vote.

CNN reported that Michelle went on to claim that Americans must continue fighting for their right to vote.

“Generations of Americans have persevered through poll taxes, literacy tests, and laws designed to strip away their power — and they’ve done it by organizing, by protesting, and most importantly, by overcoming the barriers in front of them in order to vote. And now, we’ve got to do the same,” Michelle wrote. “We must give Congress no choice but to act decisively to protect the right to vote and make the ballot box more accessible for everyone.”

Obama has long claimed that she is not a fan of politics and prefers to stay out of it, yet here she is clearly trying to recruit voters who will support liberal lawmakers like her husband, former President Barack Obama. Democrats know they’re in trouble going into midterms, so they’re pulling out all the stops, including Michelle Obama.

Good for Bannon for calling her out.
