The former First Lady Michelle Obama, who is married to the ex-President Barack Obama, has reemerged this week to announce that she has written a new memoir that will be released this coming fall.
Deadline reported [1] that Michelle’s new memoir is titled “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Certain Times,” and it is set to be released by Penguin Random House on November 15.
“Like so many of you, I’ve spent a lot of time these past few years thinking about how to keep myself centered in a world filled with so much uncertainty,” Michelle wrote on Instagram. “That process of reflection actually led me to start writing again – and today, I could not be more thrilled to tell you about my new book, ‘The Light We Carry,’ which comes out on November 15.”
Michelle went on to describe the book as “a collection of stories and practices that have helped me sort through all the challenges and questions that keep us up at night: How do I know I’m good enough? How do I bring my whole self to the table? How can I overcome my fears?”
Michelle wrote this alongside a video in which she said that the challenges of recent years that include COVID-19 have left her feeling unbalanced and vulnerable. She added that her memoir is meant to be “a toolbox” to help keep readers centered.
“I never thought I would be the author of one book, let alone two,” she said. “But I’ve found that writing this has been a way for me to gather my thoughts and find more clarity during this time. So, I hope this book means as much to you as it does to me.”
Penguin Random House released a statement saying that Michelle’s new book “details her most valuable practices, like ‘starting kind,’ ‘going high,’ and assembling a ‘kitchen table’ of trusted friends and mentors. With trademark humor, candor, and compassion, she also explores issues connected to race, gender, and visibility, encouraging readers to work through fear, find strength in community, and live with boldness.”
This is Michelle’s second memoir, with her first one “Becoming” being released in 2018. That memoir sold 17 million copies around the world, and its accompanying audiobook won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album.

This comes after Fox News [3] host Jesse Watters speculated that Michelle may be preparing to run for president in 2024, given how unpopular President Joe Biden is right now.
“Is Michelle saying she has the tools to fix the problems plaguing America?” he said. “Well, it certainly sounds like it. Why else would she be writing a new book? She doesn’t need the money. And this book seems awfully political. Michelle’s last book sold 17 million copies. It wasn’t as good as ‘How I Saved the World,’ but, you know, people seem to like it.”
“Let’s just say she did really well in the royalty department,” Watters continued. “And that’s on top of the $65 million book deal her and Barack signed for their memoirs in 2017 and the podcast agreement they inked with Spotify for $25 million, before jumping ship to Audible, since they couldn’t be seen in the same room as Joe Rogan. Or, you know, their Netflix production pact that could earn them up to $50 million just for some boring documentaries.”
“So with all of these deals, I don’t think Michelle is writing a book for her bank account,” he added. “One of the questions I get asked a lot by fans or by friends or conservative family members, my in-laws obviously, is, ‘Can I reach across the table and punch Geraldo in the face?’ But the second question I get is always, ‘Do you think Michelle Obama is running for president?'”
“I don’t know if people are scared of her or if they’re just curious, but would Michelle Obama be a formidable presidential candidate?” Watters concluded.
Michelle has long claimed that she has no interest in running for office, as she alleges that she does not like politics. Given how desperate Democrats are right now, however, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her change her mind and run for president.
