On the July 25th broadcast of “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg falsely claimed that conservative organization Turning Point USA had welcomed in neo-Nazis that were spotted demonstrating outside of their event in Tampa, Florida, earlier in July. This false claim made by “The View” co-host resulted in the hashtag “#SueTheView” trending on Twitter.

On July 23rd, a number of demonstrators arrived outside of the Tampa Convention Center to speak out against the Turning Point Student Action Summit – to include pro-abortion groups and apparently even a group of purported neo-Nazis.

Leftist media personalities of course jumped on the opportunity to make assertions that Turning Point was in some way linked to the alleged neo-Nazi individuals who’d amassed outside of the convention center, with the personalities behind “The View” being among those making such wild claims.

After discussing the matter on the July 25th broadcast of the daytime talk show, Goldberg said to co-host Sara Haines, “And oh, okay, you have to read this thing,” which led to Haines sharing a statement from Turning Point regarding the matter.

“I’ve got a legal note…The conservative group Turning Point USA has condemned the group of neo-Nazis and said they have nothing to do with the organization.”

Co-host Joy Behar briefly interjected to try and throw shade at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, asking, “Yeah, but where was DeSantis is what I want to know?” Yet, Goldberg attempted to link Turning Point to this neo-Nazi group, falsely claiming, “But you let them in. You let them in and you knew what they were. So you are complicit.”

Following a commercial break, Goldberg attempted to backtrack her prior false statement, saying, “I want to make a quick clarification about the neo-Nazis at the Turning Point event: they were outside protesters.”

But, again, Goldberg seemingly couldn’t resist trying to foment non-existent ties between Turning Point and this outside group of neo-Nazis, falsely claiming Turning Point “embraced” the group.

“My point was more metaphorical…you embraced them at your thing, I felt. So…they were not in the building….I know they were not in the building, but they were in the mix of people at the thing.”

Charlie Kirk, who serves as Turning Point’s founder and president, took to Twitter on July 26th regarding Goldberg’s defamatory comments, writing, “Talking to lawyers. Many think we have a strong case. You cannot smear minors as Nazis and get away with it. It impacts them for the rest of their life. #SueTheView”

Whether motivated by the threat of a lawsuit or doing so as an effort to regain a semblance of integrity, Haines issued a formal on-air apology on July 27th for the comments made by her co-host Goldberg two days earlier.

“So on Monday we talked about the fact that there were openly neo-Nazi demonstrators outside the Florida Student Action Summit of the Turning Point USA group. We wanna make clear that these demonstrators were gathered outside the event and that they were not invited or endorsed by Turning Point USA.

“A Turning Point USA spokesman said the group quote, ‘100% condemns those ideologies,’ and said Turning Point security tried to remove the neo-Nazis from the area but could not because they were on public property. Also, Turning Point USA wanted to clarify – wanted us to clarify – that this was  Turning Point USA summit and not a Republican party event. So, we apologize for anything we said that may have been unclear on these points.”
