Navy veteran, former Rolling Stones bodyguard, pro wrestler, and former Reform Party governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura is mulling a run for president on the Green Party ticket.

If he did so, he could act as an electoral magnet for disaffected leftist Sanders voters who do not want to vote for Joe Biden. The Green Party, with its trendy ecological socialism, may be just what they’re looking for. If enough reluctant Biden voters, especially the young and gullible ones, voted Green it could have the same effect that the 2000 Green Party run of Ralph Nader had in that race.

Nader, who was endorsed by Ventura in Nader’s 2008 run for president, stole enough hard-left voters from Al Gore in 2000, specifically in Florida, to throw the presidential election to George W. Bush. Ventura could do that for President Trump this year.

The 68-year-old Ventura tweeted Monday: “OK, I’ve decided I’m going to test the waters. IF I were going to run for president, the GREEN party would be my first choice. I’ve endorsed the party and I’m testing the waters… To be clear: I haven’t filed anything. I authorized a letter of interest that was sent on my behalf to the Greens and I’m testing the waters for Green Party nomination. I’m an independent. I’m not a Democrat or a Republican because I know they’re not the solution.”

Said a Green Party spokesman, “There is a defined process. There are several things he has to do. He has to establish an FEC campaign committee. He has to establish a campaign website. Then he can ask us to recognize him as an active candidate.”

This possibility has to give the Biden campaign shivers and the Trump campaign delight. Though, granted, Ventura’s Alpha-male pop culture appeal and independent message could cut into a small amount of the Trump vote with the white working class. However, radical Green Party stances on issues would more than compensate and make Ventura’s candidacy a dagger poised at the heart of the Biden campaign.

Thus there is likely much subterranean skulduggery by Democrats to kill the effort in the cradle, and by the GOP to help Ventura along by indirect campaign donations and other ancillary motivators. Let’s hope Ventura’s ego is massaged enough by circuitous GOP support that he makes the run. It can definitely help the president.
