Remember President Abraham Lincoln and everything he did for this country? He single-handedly freed African Americans around the country. But I guess even that isn’t enough as a San Francisco school district has decided that they will take down the names of important figures throughout history that had connections to slavery and genocide.
The problem we find ourselves in is history is bloody and dark. The reason why this is is because people are human in nature. They make mistakes and try to learn from them. Some do not and history remembers their failures and hopefully, we learn from them. But it seems that the PC culture wants to take away any part of our history so no one can be offended.
The chairman of the committee that is supposed to rename the buildings, streets, and schools is first-grade teacher Jeremiah Jeffries. He recently told reporters, “Uprooting the problematic names and symbols that currently clutter buildings, streets, throughout the city is a worthy endeavor. Only good can come from the public being reflective and intentional about the power of our words, names, and rhetoric within our public institutions.”

While Jeffries seems like a nice guy, what good can come from taking away our past. You know another group that tried to extinguish a group’s history – the Nazis. They burned books, just like they are doing in Portland. They destroyed valuable art all in the name of a better tomorrow, but history never forgets what they did.
But why Lincoln? According to Jeffries, “The history of Lincoln and Native Americans is complicated, not nearly as well-known as that of the Civil War and slavery. Lincoln, like the presidents before him and most after, did not show through policy or rhetoric that Black lives ever mattered to them outside of human capital and as casualties of wealth building.”
This is what 2020 America has come to. We can no longer celebrate the good that came from the past because there are cracks in it. So what do the progressive left say to do – destroy it and never let future generations know and learn from those past mistakes.
