Last month, we reported that country music star Blake Shelton had said that he wants to lose twenty pounds before his wedding to Gwen Stefani. Now, he’s backtracking a bit, jokingly saying that he won’t start trying to lose weight until they actually set a date.

“I feel like if you say something like that on a public forum then you have obligated yourself to make sure that it gets done,” Shelton said in an interview with Stephen Colbert.

“The Voice” coach added that there is no rush on this since he and Stefani have yet to set a date.

“It’s out there now and I don’t want to disappoint my friends and family — they’ve heard me say this,” Shelton said. “They’re hearing me say it on your show right now that I am going to lose weight for the wedding, but we don’t know when that’s going to be so why should I start?”

Earlier in the interview, Shelton joked that he “would marry Gwen in the morning,” but that they can’t nail down a date right now amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

“The truth is we want to be able to have obviously her parents there, my parents, our families and until that can happen, we can’t even make a plan,” he said.

Back in December, Stefani explained why they want to wait until the pandemic is over to plan their wedding.

“I would say I just want my parents there at this point. My parents wouldn’t come to Thanksgiving because they’re so scared so really would rather it not be a COVID situation. Like, I would rather not have masks and that kind of thing,”she said. “Even when you cut it down to just family, it’s too many people for COVID so we’re sort of going to see what happens in the next few months.”

This comes a month after Shelton told his fellow country star Luke Bryan that he wants to lose twenty pounds before his marriage.

“I feel like if I say 10, I have to do it. So, 10. It’s out there now, I can’t let people down,” Shelton said. “I’ve readjusted all the mirrors in the house. So they look like you when you’re taking a selfie from up above because you can’t even stand and look at myself in the mirror.”

“I’ve rearranged them or they’re kind of angled down, looking down at me,” he joked. “So I’m looking up and it’s not so bad.”
