One month after he was injured in a serious car crash, the legendary golfer Tiger Woods has spoken out to give fans an update on his health.
“Happy to report that I am back home and continuing my recovery,” Woods, 45, said in a statement posted to Twitter. “I am so grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement that I have received over the past few weeks.”
He went on to thank all the doctors, nurses, and hospital staffers who took care of him in the weeks after his crash.
“Thank you to the incredible surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Cedars Sinai Medical Center. You have all taken such great care of me and I cannot thank you enough,” Woods said. “I will be recovering at home and working on getting stronger every day.”

Entertainment Tonight reported that this comes after Woods suffered major damage to his right leg in a car crash in the Palos Verdes area of Los Angeles early in the morning on February 23. He was forced to undergo a long surgical procedure on his lower right leg and ankle after being rushed to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for his injuries.
“Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center,” Anish Mahajan, MD, Chief Medical Officer & Interim CEO at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, said at the time of the crash.
“Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia. Additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins,” Mahajan continued. “Trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling.”
It was revealed earlier this month that Woods was found unconscious at the scene of the crash by a neighbor. By the time police arrived, however, Woods was awake and able to answer questions. He told them that he had no idea how the crash happened, and that he did not remember driving that morning.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has said that criminal charges against Woods are unlikely and that there is no sign he was intoxicated.
