Mayor Muriel Bowser plans to have the Black Lives Matter mural in Washington D.C. repainted sometime this week and plans on making the area an iconic art installation with lighting and landscaping. The area will become an art exhibit to honor the Black Lives Matter movement.

Mayor Bowser had the slogan originally painted a block from the White House in May 2020 in response to Trump taking control of the streets of Washington D.C. in attempt to put an end to riots and destruction that were destroying the nation's capitol. At the time, Mayor Bowser had deemed the area "Black Lives Matter Plaza," and refused to remove the slogan from the two block area located on 16th Street NW.

In late May ANTIFA-BLM rioters attempted to storm the White House in response to the death of George Floyd. During that time numerous members of law enforcement and secret service were injured during the riots. Fires were set to the historic St. John's Church, a federal building in Lafayette Square, restaurants and office buildings. Rioters also attempted to topple over the statue of President Andrew Jackson.

In response to the destruction and chaos that ravaged the streets of D.C. Mayor Bowser blocked off a two block section and had the slogan "Black Lives Matter," painted. She called the area "Black Lives Matter Plaza," and it became an anti-Trump zone.

Black Lives Matter DC took to Twitter today and said, "This morning at Black Lives Matter Plaza in DC.  @MayorBowser's BLM performance has come to a close and set strike completed.  We now return to her regularly scheduled performances."  Seems like they aren't too happy.
