During a press conference on Monday, Joe Biden’s Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg whined that highways are racist, saying that underpasses in New York City were designed to only block buses that carried black and Puerto Rican children, thereby preventing minorities from going to the beach.

Of course, he offered no evidence to back up this ridiculous claim.

“Can you give us the construct of how you will deconstruct the racism that was built into the roadways?” the radically liberal reporter April Ryan asked. “Can you talk to us about how that could be deconstructed?”

National File reported that Buttigieg replied:

“As to where we target those dollars, I’m still surprised that some people were surprised when I pointed to the fact that a highway was built for the purpose of dividing a White and a black neighborhood, or if an underpass was constructed such that a bus carrying mostly Black and Puerto Rican kids to a beach, or would’ve been, uh, in New York was designed too low for it to pass by, that that obviously reflects racism that went into those design choices. Uh, I don’t think we have anything to lose by confronting that simple reality, and i think we have everything to gain by acknowledging it and then dealing with it, which is why they are reconnecting communities that billion dollars is something we want to get to work right away putting to work.”

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) fired back at Buttigieg by tweeting, “The roads are racist. We must get rid of roads.”

Republican Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance weighed in as well, writing, “Nothing in this country works. It takes years to repair a bridge that was built in far less time. Every big city has skyrocketing murder rates. China is about to take over the world even as we name Navy ships after pedophiles. And our reporters ask about the racism of our roads?”

This isn’t the first time that Buttigieg attempted to turn infrastructure into a racial issue.

“There is racism physically built into some of our highways, and that’s why the jobs plan has specifically committed to reconnect some of the communities that were divided by these dollars,” he told The Grio back in April.

During his Senate confirmation hearings back in January, Buttigieg pledged to combat what he described as racial injustice in infrastructure as transportation secretary.

“I also recognize that at their worst, misguided policies and missed opportunities in transportation can reinforce racial and economic inequality by dividing or isolating neighborhoods and undermining government’s basic role of empowering Americans to thrive,” Buttigieg said in his opening statement.

This is yet another example of Democrats making absolutely everything about race.
