As an Air Force veteran, a deployed combat squadron commander in Operation Enduring Freedom, and a survivor of the 9/11 Pentagon attack, I am deeply troubled by the misrepresentations of Tim Walz’s military record and experiences.
The recent revelations about Walz’s military service raise serious questions about his integrity and his suitability for the role of Vice President. It is a grave disservice to our nation’s veterans and active-duty service members when politicians embellish or misrepresent their military service for personal gain.
Walz’s claim that he “carried weapons of war” in war is particularly troubling. As a veteran, I know firsthand the sacrifices and dangers that come with serving and leading in combat. To suggest that he experienced the same level of danger and hardship as those who have actually been in combat is a slap in the face to every service member who has put their life on the line for our country.

Furthermore, the fact that Walz retired from the military just months before his unit was set to deploy to Iraq raises questions about his commitment to his fellow service members. It is a fundamental principle of military service that you never leave your brothers and sisters behind. To retire and pursue a political career while your unit was preparing to deploy is a betrayal of the trust and camaraderie that is the foundation of military service.
As a veteran, I believe that our leaders should be held to the highest standards of integrity and honesty. The American people deserve leaders who are truthful about their records and experiences, especially when it comes to their military service.
Walz’s misrepresentations of his military record are a stain on his character and a disservice to the men and women who have served our country with honor and integrity. As a veteran, I cannot recommend any American support a candidate who has shown such a blatant disregard for the truth about his military record and for the sacrifices of our military service members.
