President Donald Trump is back at the White House after a three-day course of treatment for the coronavirus at Walter Reed Medical Center—and he’ll continue to be cared for and closely watched by doctors. While those on the left work themselves into a liberal lather over all of this, the fact that the president of the United States contracted COVID-19 is proof that anyone—no matter who you are and no matter what precautions you take—can be infected.

But even more importantly, Trump is showing the nation that we cannot run and hide from this virus. Yes, we must use common-sense precautions against it. But we must also stand and fight. It is the American way.

And it’s the only way to win a war.

If America had done in the past as Democrat Joe Biden does today—hiding out at home and constantly hemming and hawing about what to do—we’d be under British, German or Japanese rule. In 2020 and beyond, if we hide from this virus and let it win, then we can look forward to Chinese rule. That’s the blunt reality.

We have to reopen our businesses, our schools, our states, and our country. We must, of course, keep those who are most susceptible to this illness as safe as possible. But think of it. In times of war, we didn’t draft the elderly, did we? So why would we put them at risk of this virus today? Let’s use not just our smarts and our common sense here, but true wisdom.

By the numbers, here’s why we need to be smart about this.

ONE. There is only one true statistic concerning COVID-19 and the U.S.A. What is that, you ask? The United States has approximately 4.3 percent of the world’s population. That’s it.

Other than that, no statistic can be accurate about the virus because there is no common denominator. Meaning: We do not know the total number of people infected around the world due to the lack of reasonably accurate numbers from some countries, either because of their poor infrastructure, their lack of testing, their flat-out lying—or some combo of those things. We also do not know the true number of deaths due to COVID-19 for the same reasons.

Put all of this together, and obviously we do not have or know the accurate death rate from this disease.

TWO. China has 18.5 percent of the world’s population, which is over 1.4 billion people—and China was the source of the virus. Given these hard statistics, do you really believe—as the Chinese have tried to tell us—that they’ve only had 85,000 cases of the coronavirus and less than 4,600 deaths from it? Really? If that’s the case, then you must believe China tested the virus in Wuhan, isolated the population there—and intentionally sent it around the world.

THREE. India is second in population only to China, with over 1.3 billion people. It claims it’s tested only 50 million people—and from that, has over 6 million cases and just 100,000 deaths. There is no accuracy to these numbers.

FOUR. Now let’s go to Russia. With less than half of the population of the U.S., they say they’ve experienced 1.2 million cases of the coronavirus and only 21,000 deaths. Sorry, but I’m calling BS on that one.

FIVE. How about if we compare the United States to the European Union, including the United Kingdom? The E.U. is claiming some 3.3 million cases and 200,000 deaths among a total population of approximately 525 million people. That’s a 6 percent death rate! They have performed 100 million tests. So roughly 20 percent of their population has been tested.

But the U.S., on the other hand, has 331 million people—and we’ve also performed 100 million tests. That means about a third of our population has been tested. Some people have been tested more than once, of course. And after all that testing, we have had 7.5 million cases and 211,000 deaths. That’s a 2.8 percent death rate. We have done more testing than any other country, so of course more cases have been detected. But even these numbers cannot be completely accurate. Why? Because we haven’t tested everyone.

Another factor that should be considered is this: Chinese travelers are more likely to travel to Europe and the Western Hemisphere or throughout Asia. So the infection rate would be much lower in places where the Chinese population doesn’t travel as much.

This is why the saying “numbers don’t lie” is simply a lie.

And it’s why the claim by some people that “Trump is responsible for all the coronavirus deaths in our country” is absolutely wrong and beyond ridiculous. Not only did the president stop travel into our country from China and Europe very early on this (and against the advice of others), he began Project Warp Speed, which in all probability is going to deliver a vaccine faster to the American people than has ever been delivered before. Therapeutics have been developed and deployed, and many seem to be working against this virus. Personal protective equipment (PPE) has been distributed faster than ever and ventilators are furnished to all in need around the world.

Some people slammed Trump for not immediately invoking the Defense Production Act (he did invoke it in early March). But the president, as an experienced business leader, knew that he did not need to “order” companies to do what was needed to help their country. They knew what to do intuitively and instinctively. Our best companies, as well as all Americans, stand and fight when there’s a tough challenge. Yes, President Trump eventually invoked the act, but by that point it was not really needed to get our companies on board.

Coronavirus lockdowns across the nation aren’t necessarily making people healthier. As a result of lockdowns, many people have lost their jobs, their income, their reason for getting up in the morning. People are uncertain about their futures. They’re cut off from others in ways they weren’t before. They’re unsure about how to proceed. Insecurity, isolation and remoteness aren’t beneficial to the human condition. These things have affected many more people than the coronavirus itself has. Human deterioration, disease rates, even deaths from the “lockdown monster” cannot be calculated.

The COVID reality is this. President Trump did not kill 211,000 people in our country. To suggest he did so is an outrage. The fact is he saved the rest of our country. He saved over 330 million people. And he is showing, every day, by his example and his actions, why we must stand and fight against this virus and why we must take bold and decisive action against it. That’s the only way to win.

Crawling into a hole and cowering in the face of it, on the other hand—as Biden and his ilk have done, and as they keep urging others to do—is the sure way to defeat. That’s not who we are as a country, and millions of us who have fought against other enemies reject that.

In America, we stand and fight. It’s the only way forward for our great country.
