The mayor of Washington D.C. is luring kids to get the Covid-19 vaccine by offering them Visa gift cards and the opportunity to get Apple Airpods.
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the program on Thursday saying that they will offer children $51 Visa gift cards and Airpods from August 7 for receiving the first dose of the vaccine. The first 400 children to get the vaccine will have the option to choose between the gift card or the Airpods.
The parents of the vaccinated child will also receive a $51 Visa gift card. The mayor also added that the gift cards could add up for families that had multiple children.

“All District youth who get vaccinated or who have already been vaccinated will also be eligible to win an iPad or a college scholarship worth $25,000. All of the public schools that serve students between the ages of 12 and 17 — will also receive microgrants to fund their own events and prizes for students who get vaccinated.” - Announcement from Youth Vaccination Program
Mayor Bowser also reinstated the mask mandate regardless if someone is vaccinated or not. The mandate goes into effect on July 31 at 5 am for everyone over the age of 2.
While the mayor focuses on the coronavirus, more people are dying in Washington D.C. from homicides. From July 14-28 there were 11 deaths as a result of homicides and only 4 deaths as a result of the coronavirus. Maybe instead of allocating city funds to lure children into getting a Covid-19 shot she should be utilizing funds to protect the streets of the nations capitol.
