For five years, the FBI insisted these were live, viable explosives — deadly devices that could have killed dozens. Yet they sat undetected for nearly 18 hours while Secret Service agents, K-9 units, pedestrians, and even Vice President-elect Kamala Harris's motorcade rolled within feet of one at the DNC. No urgency, no blast perimeter, no real evacuation — just casual milling around like it was a prop, not a threat. Then, late last year, the FBI announced they'd solved it: Brian Cole Jr., a 30-year-old autistic man from Virginia, allegedly confessed without a lawyer, claiming he parked near Folger Park and planted them. But the story is falling apart fast. A 20-year ATF explosives veteran filed a report in Cole's defense: the powder inside wasn't properly mixed black powder — mostly large white chunks that couldn't detonate. The "igniter"? A single 9-volt battery and steel wool — incapable of setting off real explosives. New video analysis shows Cole's blue Nissan Sentra more than a mile away, six minutes' drive, at the precise moment the hooded suspect was supposedly retrieving the second device from the park.
