The former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich spoke out on Tuesday morning to slam President Joe Biden for how weak he has been when it comes to Russia. This comes as tensions are continuing to rise over the situation at the border that Russia shares with Ukraine.

Even the base of the Democratic Party is now realizing that Putin is extraordinarily dangerous,” Gingrich told Fox News. “He has senator after senator calling for very strong sanctions. But the administration, basically on the Obama model, is for weakness. They avoid war, frankly, by accepting surrender of their own interests. Just the very fact that we are taking American diplomats out of Ukraine is an example.”

“What kind of a signal of weakness is it when you say to your ally, ‘We don’t trust enough that you’ll be able to survive to keep our embassy fully staffed?'” he added. “And I think that, in effect, Biden has done for the Ukrainian border what he did for the American border. He’s made it wide open. He’s doing nothing effective. And I think there’s a 50-50 chance Russia is going to go a lot further.”

This came one day after Gingrich weighed in on the situation on Twitter, where he claimed that Putin is not afraid of Biden.

“The Biden Administration talks and Putin acts,” he tweeted. “This is such a clear replay of Chamberlain trying to deal with Hitler that it is more than a little frightening. Putin is pushing day by day and has no fear of NATO because he has no fear of the United States or its President.”

Newsweek reported that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki revealed yesterday that Biden is preparing to sign an executive order “that will prohibit new investment, trade, and financing by U.S. persons to, from, or in” the separatist regions. The order will also “provide authority to impose sanctions on any person determined to operate in those areas of Ukraine.”

Psaki added that the United States is preparing for other economic measures that will be taken “should Russia further invade Ukraine.” While she didn’t say when Biden will sign the order, she said it will happen “soon.” Psaki then said that the U.S. will announce more measures “related to today’s blatant violation of Russia’s international commitments.”

Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) fired back by saying that Europe is “on the verge of war because of the weakness” of President Biden. It remains to be seen how this will all play out.
