Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich spoke out on Monday to warn Democrats that they will fail if they try to use former President Donald Trump to scare voters, as Americans are far too terrified of spiking inflation and gas prices right now to be swayed by that.

“Here’s the core problem for the Democrats: They apparently have signaled that they know in advance that tomorrow’s inflation numbers are going to be staggering,” Gingrich told Fox News host Laura Ingraham. “They have this game where they talk about it being Putin’s price hike. Nobody believes that. And so they’ve got average everyday voters, whether they’re African-American and Latino, White, Asian — it doesn’t matter. They’re going to the gas station, they’re trying to buy fill up their tank … They’re then going to the grocery store [and] everything’s more expensive.”

Gingrich proceeded to bring up Democrats’ obsession with former President Trump.

“And I don’t care how the Democrats message it,” the Republican argued. “How are you going to get people to be more frightened of some theoretical problem — you know, Donald Trump in 2024? Then the reality that people are watching the system breakdown, they’re watching 18,000 people a day projected to come across the southern border … They’re watching rising crime rates, rising carjackings, and they’re looking around thinking, “None of this is working.” So the Democrat problem is you can’t scare people enough with some political theory when they’re already being frightened by the reality you’ve created.”

Gingrich had previously made this same point in an op-ed that Democrats would do well to pay attention to.

“Yelling ‘Trump’ does not switch votes from people who pay more than $90 to fill their gas tanks. It doesn’t move people who find the price of groceries skyrocketing. And it definitely doesn’t inspire those who worry about getting mugged, carjacked, raped or murdered,” Gingrich wrote. “Yelling ‘Trump’ does not work if 18,000 people are illegally crossing the border each day and straining American resources. (This is the equivalent of adding a city larger than Atlanta once a month.)”

“Yelling ‘Trump’ does not regain the votes of parents and grandparents infuriated by the radical sexual politics and brainwashing that serves as education in unionized public schools,” he continued.

Democrats are so obsessed with Trump that they likely won’t be able to stop themselves from mentioning him, even if doing so would help their chances in midterms. In the end, they’re just far more obsessed with Trump than conservatives ever were, and he’s still living rent-free in the heads of liberals everywhere.

Sad!
